WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT:

  • Great value for the fantastic location
  • Spacious rooms with a roll top bath
  • Fantastic breakfast options
  • Situated in a picturesque town

I adore the Cotswolds. Within easy reach by train or car from central London,  it’s the perfect weekend get away, with classic green British countryside and high-end country living.

My husband and I spent a night over Easter weekend with my husband at the George Townhouse which is a stunning original Georgian pub with guest rooms in Shipton-on-Stour. If you enjoy small independent tearooms, florists and well sourced vintage furniture shops, head to this picturesque town, which is perfectly positioned on the borders of The Cotswolds and Warwickshire and often known as the gateway to The Cotswolds.

The George Townhouse is that clever mix of classic and fun. Our room had large romantic proportions with wonderful sun flooded windows and a generous bed and accompanying the velvet pillows and organic tea infusions, an enormous bathroom complete with roll top bath and walk in double shower. My husband loves a bath and was very excited to try the lovely scented products left in our room to use.

Because of its history and original layout, The George Townhouse shares its space with you in a very friendly way. When we headed downstairs for dinner that evening, a vibrant bar/dining area was atmospheric with locals and those wanting to explore the surrounding green area, with food and drink in full flow, including locally sourced meats and teatime snacks on hand from the bar.

In this part of the world local produce is celebrated and used as much as possible and this was evident on the menu for dinner, with rich meaty courses that we were excited to tuck into in the large interesting dining space.

The highlight of our stay came the next morning. As I wondered downstairs to find some orange juice, I was hit by the warm and yummy smell of pastries, coffee and fruit. All the things you want to choose from for breakfast, alongside a fantastic hot food menu.  We were seated at a lovely sunny table and told to enjoy as much food as we wished. Our hot courses of Full English with Fried Bread and Avocado on Creamy Bulgur Wheat were large and plentiful. Nothing felt like too much trouble for the helpful waiting staff and a check out of 11am meant we could relax for a while after filling our stomachs!

If you love The Cotswolds, The George Townhouse is conveniently located, comforting and welcoming.
